Hello, I'm Sharon - the baker, artist and founder of Floral Cupcakes.
From my home kitchen in a little village in Alfreton, Derbyshire, I create handcrafted cakes and floral cupcakes for life's most important moments. But my story started a long time ago, kneeling on a dining chair, watching my mum bake.
That passion for baking, which I later learned was in my blood from my baker Grandad, has been the thread through my entire life. It took me all the way to New Zealand, where I became known as "The Muffin Lady," selling out baskets of freshly baked goods every morning. It led me to open my own cake decorating shop, where I sourced supplies, taught classes, and created celebration cakes for my community.
My journey eventually brought me back to the UK and to a dream job at Windsor Cake Craft, which was at the time, the largest cake decorating shop in Europe. There, I spent three happy years immersed in the craft, from customer service to supervising the Cake Academy. Those experiences taught me everything I know about quality, artistry, and the joy that a perfect cake can bring.
Today, all that experience is channelled into my own business. Every flower you see is piped by hand, one petal at a time. Every topper is modelled from sugar. I never use printed card or plastic, so each design is 100% edible artistry, from the first bite to the last.
I take on a limited number of commissions each week so that your order receives my full, undivided attention. This means we can work together closely on colours, flavours, and the personal details that will make your cake truly yours.
I am now focused on creating beautiful floral cupcakes and bespoke cakes. When I'm not in my kitchen, I also run a second business, Sharon Burchall Cake Studio, teaching everything I've learned over the years to aspiring home bakers.
